COLUMBIA, SC : Driver evading police dies in Clarendon County crash on Saturday, 13th April 2024

A crash on Saturday night in Clarendon County has left one dead, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred at around 11:50 p.m. Saturday on Luke Godwin Road near Wash Davis Road, about 1 mile south of Summerton.

Highway Patrol stated the victim, 33-year-old Tonnie Leon Lawson, Jr., was driving a 2005 Honda Accord south on Luke Godwin Road and attempting to elude law enforcement.

According to state troopers, the car traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned.
