Reno, NV : Elderly Gardnerville woman dies in I-580 crash Monday on July 14, 2014
The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a single-car accident that killed an elderly Gardnerville woman south of Reno and caused traffic to be diverted on part of U.S. Interstate 580 in the Washoe Valley.
Trooper David Gibson says the accident occurred about 2:30 p.m. Monday near the Galena Creek Bridge about 2 miles north of Bower's Mansion.
Investigators say that for unknown reasons the woman in a 2007 Silver KIA Rio left the roadway and struck the concrete wall on the left shoulder before bouncing across all southbound travel lanes and striking the other concrete wall.
The victim's name has not been released. Gibson says she was not wearing a seatbelt.
Southbound traffic was diverted onto the shoulder while the accident was investigated.
