Newport, VA : Toddler killed in two-vehicle crash in Suffolk on Sunday, 11th September 2016
A 3 -year-old Franklin boy was killed in Suffolk after a car crash Sunday afternoon.
The accident was first reported at 2:11 p.m. near westbound Route 58 at the Wilroy Road exit, according to a statement from Diana Klink, spokeswoman for the city of Suffolk.
An investigation found that the toddler was in a Toyota heading eastbound on Route 58 when the car lost control, drove over the grass median and hit a Mazda minivan traveling in the other direction, according to Klink.
The toddler, whose name is not being released because he is a juvenile, was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother is in serious condition at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Klink said.
The toddler’s family lives in Franklin, while the four people inside the Mazda are from Cary, North Carolina, Klink said. They were treated and released from the hospital, she said.
Westbound Route 58 was reopened for traffic at 7:45 p.m., Klink said. Police are continuing to investigate.
