Tucson, AZ : I-10 closed east of Tucson after fatal crash involving truck, van near Vail on Tuesday, 24th December, 2019
Police closed all eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near Vail for almost three hours on Christmas Eve after a fatal crash involving a semitruck and a van.
The crash was reported at 6:43 p.m. near Vail, which is 30 minutes southeast of Tucson, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
As of Tuesday night, DPS had not said how many people were killed in the collision.
The eastbound lanes of I-10 were closed near the junction with State Route 83.
DPS had advised drivers to turn around and return to Tucson, while the Arizona Department of Transportation posted a detour route on its Twitter account that would take drivers through Sonoita to Whetstone and back north to Interstate 10, adding at least an hour to drivers' trips.
At 9:27 p.m. Tuesday, ADOT tweeted that the freeway was open again, but the right lane was blocked at the scene of the crash.
