Marshall, MI : One man died in a car-semi crash on I-94 at I-69 early Friday, April 22, 2016

One person was killed in an early morning crash Friday on I-94 at the I-69 interchange.

Calhoun County Sheriff Department deputies reported the crash at 2:14 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-94 involving a car and a semi truck. The driver of the car was killed in the crash just east of the exit ramp from I-94 to I-69.

The driver of the semi involved was not hurt.

The truck driver told deputies he was eastbound when he saw a car just ahead that was stopped in the highway. The truck was unable to stop and drove over the top of the car, dragging the wreckage into the median where both vehicles stopped.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

Names of drivers were not immediately released and the crash is being investigated by the department's Accident Reconstruction Team. Alcohol use is a suspected factor in the crash, deputies said.

I-94 at the interchange was closed in both directions but traffic each was was diverted onto the exit and entrance ramps and continued moving past the scene. The freeway reopened shortly before 7 a.m., the Michigan Department of Transportation reported.

The Marshall Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
