CORRY, PA : Mill Village man killed in Crawford County crash on Sunday, 22nd April 2018

Pennsylvania State Police troopers were attempting to initiate a traffic stop on a northern Crawford County roadway early Sunday morning when the driver of a pickup truck sped off, lost control and was killed in a crash, state police reported Sunday.

Troopers identified the man as Raymond G. Szall, 42, of Mill Village. Crawford County Coroner Scott Schell said he pronounced Szall dead at about 3 a.m. Sunday at the scene of the crash, which happened on Shreve Ridge Road, north of King Road, in Bloomfield Township. The area of the crash is west of Route 8 and just south of the Erie County line.

The crash was reported on Sunday at about 1:45 a.m. According to state police in Corry, troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 1997 Dodge Dakota. The truck traveled north on Shreve Ridge Road at a high rate of speed and the driver lost control, with the truck traveling off the west side of the roadway and striking an embankment and a tree, troopers reported.

The truck overturned and came to rest on its roof. Firefighters who were called to the crash had to free Szall from the truck, Schell said.
