LAKELAND, FL : Former Lakeland resident dies in Tampa crash on April, Wednesday 5th 2017
A former Lakeland resident died in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday in Tampa on Interstate 275 South approaching State Road 60.
Barry Edward Anderson, 69, of Jacksonville, was traveling southbound on I-275 near SR-60 in a 2008 Kia Spectra when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of his vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Anderson’s vehicle departed the travel lane, entered the inside shoulder and collided with the center median — a concrete barrier wall. The vehicle overturned multiple times and partially caught fire.
Anderson died at the scene.
He was a graduate of Lakeland High School’s 1966 or 1967 class, said Kay Benoit, the mother of his only child, Jeff Anderson.
Benoit and her son live in Lakeland.
Barry Anderson leaves behind his son, brothers, Tracy and Tim, and sisters, Lynn and Terry Lynn, Benoit said.
She said he was on the way to a Tampa Bay Rays game when he crashed.
