Gainesville, FL : Man charged after crashing home on Tuesday, January 3rd 2017

A 20-year-old Alachua man is in jail after two people came home after being away to find him asleep on their couch and two TVs, a laptop and an Amazon Echo missing, police reported.

One of the victims told police they did not give Walter Gerardo Gonzalez permission to be in their Windsor Park apartment at 3705 SW 27th St., and that they didn't even know him, a Gainesville police report said.

Gonzalez told police he found the door unlocked but not fully closed, and went inside when no one answered a knock, the report said. He told them he entered the apartment a second time, with the intent to meet a woman he met through the Backpage.com website, and suggested she had given him the address. But police say Gonzalez let them look through his phone and that he had sent the address as a meeting place, not the other way around.

One of the TVs was found in a nearby apartment, where Gonzalez told police he'd been sleeping off and on for a few days, the report said.

Gonzalez faces two counts of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, two counts of grand theft and giving false information to law enforcement, records show.
