ATHOL, MA : Athol man dies of injuries following collision on Wednesday, December 21st 2016

A local man died at UMass Memorial Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle on South Main Street shortly before 5 a.m. on Dec. 21, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.

Police say Jeremy Hanshaw, 23, was struck on an unlighted portion of South Main Street near the intersection with Roosevelt Road. It is unknown when Hanshaw died.

Athol Police and Fire departments, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, MSP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and MSP Crime Scene Services responded to the scene. A witness said the victim was walking in the middle of the eastbound lane.

Hanshaw was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.
