SAN JOSE, CA : San Jose man killed in front of daughter in crash with big rig on Friday, 27th December, 2019

In a heart-wrenching few seconds, a San Jose man was killed in full view of his young daughter when their car crashed into a big rig west of downtown on Friday morning, authorities said.

Witnesses, including 35-year-old Gilroy resident Don Baker and workers at an adjacent construction site, rushed to the wreck at Park Avenue and McEvoy Street. They discovered a horrific scene: a lifeless driver and the girl in the backseat, relatively unscathed but screaming in terror.

“‘My daddy’s dead. My daddy’s dead,'” Baker recalled the girl saying over and over. “I told her to breathe slowly, deeply, and calmly and help is on the way.”For much of Friday morning, the crumpled sports car lay underneath the rig bed, its top almost completely sheared off. There were no apparent skid marks near the wreck.
