WRENTHAM, MA : 92-year-old woman flown to hospital from Wrentham crash on Friday, 10th August 2018

A 92-year-old woman was seriously injured and taken by medical helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital after a car hit a utility pole on Dedham Street (Route 1A) Friday.

The single car accident was reported around noon between the center of Wrentham and Norfolk and involved extrication of the woman, who was a passenger, and a male driver from the heavily damaged vehicle, Fire Capt. Ken Jefferson said.

"They both were entrapped," Jefferson said. "There was significant amount of damage to the car. The engine actually was launched across the street into the front yard at the corner of Lorraine Metcalf Drive."

The woman complained of chest pain and had trouble breathing after an air bag deployed, firefighters said.

A Norfolk ambulance took the woman to the helicopter landing zone, which was the parking lot at

King Philip Regional High School, and a Boston MedFlight helicopter took the victim to the Providence hospital.
The driver also suffered serious injuries and was taken by a Wrentham ambulance, also to Rhode Island Hospital, Jefferson added.

Their conditions couldn't be learned Friday night.

Franklin firefighters helped out at the landing zone.
