An unoccupied tractor-trailer parked on East First Street disengaged, rolled across Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, down an embankment and struck another tractor-trailer on Business 40 on Wednesday.
The 7:34 p.m. crash tied up westbound traffic for 3½ hours while authorities cleaned up the scene and investigated the incident, according to a Winston-Salem police news release.
The unoccupied tractor-trailer, which was registered in Indiana, had been parked in the 1300 block of East First Street.
It struck a tractor-trailer traveling in the right westbound lane of the highway. The driver of that vehicle, Douglas Drew Propst of Maiden, was being treated for minor injuries at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, police said.
The accident is still under investigation.
