Eugene, OR : Bicyclist critically injured in Coburg Road crash in north Eugene Friday evening, February 24, 2017
A male bicyclist was critically injured Friday evening when he was struck by a 1-ton flatbed truck as he rode across Coburg Road near Oakway Center.
The bicyclist was nearly hit by a vehicle at about 8 p.m. as he rode across the northbound lanes of Coburg Road near Oakway Road, but then was struck by the truck as he was crossing the southbound lanes, near P.F. Chang’s, police said.
The bicyclist was not in the crosswalk at the intersection of Coburg and Oakway roads when he was struck, Eugene police Lt. Ron Tinseth said.
Tinseth did not have the name or age of the bicyclist. He said it was unlikely the cyclist would survive.
Both southbound lanes of Coburg Road were closed as police investigated the crash. The northbound lanes were open.
There was no indication that the pickup truck was speeding or that the pickup’s driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol, Tinseth said.
The driver had not been issued a citation, he said. Police were continuing to investigate the crash, Tinseth said.
