Motorcyclist 25 dies in high-speed crash in Hernando
A Brooksville man died Monday evening after a car turned into the path of his motorcycle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Christopher Lee Gillen, 25, of Brooksville was driving his Honda motorcycle south on Calienta Street near the intersection with Maplewood Drive at a high rate of speed about 5:20 p.m. when Harold G. Toms III, 60, of Spring Hill attempted to make a left turn in his Toyota Celica, troopers said. The front of Gillen's motorcycle collided with the front of the Toyota.Gillen, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and landed on the shoulder. He was taken to Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point, where he died from his injuries. Toms was not injured.
