Wellington, OH : Three people injured in car-bus crash at Peck Wadsworth Road and Route 511 in Brighton Township on Thursday, Oct 1, 2015
A driver, her mother-in-law and the driver’s 6-year-old daughter were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after the car they were in was struck by a Wellington Schools bus at the intersection of state Route 511 and Peck-Wadsworth Road about 3:50 p.m. Thursday.
Trooper Steven Drew of the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Elyria post said driver Melissa Johnson, 33, of Wakeman, was northbound in a 2004 Dodge Neon on Route 511 with Ruby Johnson, her mother-in-law, and daughter Vanessa Johnson in the back seat in a child seat. All were wearing seat belts.
Drew said school bus driver Gary Feron, westbound on Peck-Wadsworth, was stopped at a stop sign. Drew said Feron didn’t see the Neon and began to pull out. The bus’s driver’s side bumper struck the front passenger side of the Neon.
Melissa Johnson veered left about 20 yards and came to rest in a ditch. Wellington firefighters had to extricate Ruby Johnson, age unavailable, from the substantially damaged Neon. Feron and four students in the bus were uninjured, said Wellington Superintendent Dennis Mock.
Feron, 62, of the 200 block of Lakeside Avenue in Wellington, was issued a failure to yield citation.
