Franklin , TN : 15-Years old person injured after crashing his car into a business on Main Street while fleeing from police on Thursday Morning ,May 7th 2015
A 15-year-old is in the hospital after crashing his car into a business on Main Street in Franklin.
According to the Franklin Police Department, an officer stopped a vehicle that was "driving erratically" near North Petway and West Main just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
The driver allegedly took off while the officer was walking over, then crashed into the retail store Lulu.
Police said the officer was not pursuing the driver at the time of the crash.
The teen was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He faces multiple charges, including felony evading arrest and reckless endangerment.
The 15-year-old was allegedly raped by a guard at the Williamson County Juvenile Center. That guard is charged with felony rape and goes on trial this summer.
The boy's mother said he suffers from PTSD and shakes at the idea of returning to juvenile detention
"He was assaulted after about three weeks of being in isolation," his mother said. "And after that, it was horrible. They didn't let us see him. They didn't let him talk to anyone on the phone or get any kind of counseling or treatment. And so we just suffered through it."
There are now two separate lawsuits against Williamson County.
"They violated federal law," said Connie Reguli, the teen's attorney. "They violated ... the Prison Rape Elimination Act, which they're supposed to get them counseling immediately for trauma. They did not do it. They refused to do it. They told him he was lying. They put him in solitary confinement. They told the mother she was crazy."
Franklin police cannot comment on that aspect of the case, but said there's no excuse.
"The fact is a 15-year-old boy had no business out at 1:30 in the morning," said Sgt. Charlie Warner with Franklin police. "Had he been at home in bed, where he was supposed to be, instead of out driving a vehicle and then running from police, he wouldn't be in this situation."
The business, which has serious damage, will remain closed for the time being.
City engineers said the building is still structurally sound. No other businesses on Main Street were affected.
