Ionia, MI : 20-year-old killed in I-96 crash on Sunday afternoon, February 19, 2017
The Ionia County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying the driver of a vehicle that may have been involved in a Sunday afternoon fatal crash.
Deputies responded to reports of a single-car accident on westbound I-96, west of Jordan Lake Road near the 63 mile marker, at around 2 p.m. They said a blue 2003 Jeep Liberty, driven by Leslie Pablo-Matias, 20, of Wyoming, was traveling at a high rate of speed. Pablo-Matias lost control, ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, but speed is, said ICSO Detective Brent Denny.
Witnesses told deputies a white Honda Accord may have been involved with Pablo-Matias' vehicle prior to the crash in a possible road rage incident.
The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has any information, contact the Ionia County Sheriff's Office at 616-527- 5737 or Silent Observer at 616-527-0107.
Assisting the Ionia County Sheriff's Office were Berlin-Orange Fire Department, Reed & Hoppes Towing, the Ionia Road Commission, Ionia County Central Dispatch and Lake Funeral Home.
