Portland , OR : Moped driver seriously injured after colliding with a pickup truck in Northeast Portland on Friday evening , February 27th 2015

A moped driver was seriously injured Friday evening after colliding with a pickup truck in Northeast Portland, fire officials said.

The crash was reported around 5:30 p.m. at Northeast Knott Street and 27th Avenue, police said.

Police said the moped was traveling westbound on Knott Street when a pickup truck pulled out northbound onto 27th Avenue to cross Knott and struck the moped.

The moped driver, a man, was taken to Oregon Health and Science University Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash, police said.

The driver of the pickup was cited for failing to obey a traffic control device.
