MEMPHIS, TN : A 6-year-old girl was hit by a car in Orange Mound on Thursday, October, 19th 2017

A 6-year-old girl was hit by a car in Orange Mound and died from her injuries.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. at Josephine Street and Spottswood Avenue, according to Memphis Police Department.

The driver, who will not be charged, stayed on the scene.

Witnesses say the girl was walking home with her brother when she slipped away and went out into the intersection.

The driver turning right didn't see the girl until it was too late because of the high hedges on the corner.

"Everybody was just numb," said neighbor John Polk. "It's a hard thing to see. Now I've got to have, live here for years with teddy bears at the corner of my house."

Neighbors said the intersection is dangerous, and another child was nearly hit earlier this week.
