Augusta, KY : Bracken County woman dead in fatal accident near wellsburg on Tuesday morning, Sep 22, 2015
Bracken County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a Tuesday morning accident which left a Bracken County woman dead.
According to nearby residents, the accident happened along Kentucky 8 near the location of another recent fatal accident near Wellsburg.
“We may never know the cause of the accident,” said Bracken County Sheriff Howard Niemeier. “It was a single-vehicle accident and there were no witnesses to what happened.”
The accident, which happened about 9 a.m., left the vehicle wrapped around a tree and entrapped the driver, Shayla Perez, 25, who was seriously injured.
“She was traveling east on Mary Ingles Highway when her vehicle left the road in the 4600 block and struck a tree. She was taken to University of Cincinnati Hospital by AirCare and later succumbed to her injuries,” Niemeier said.
According to Niemeier, Perez had been living in the area of the accident, and only released her name after her family was contacted.
Investigators remained at the scene until early afternoon, officials said.
According to officials, Bracken County EMS, Augusta and Brooksville Fire Departments, along with BCSO and Kentucky State Police assisted at the scene.
