Birch Run Township, MI : 86-year-old man killed after tractor accident in Saginaw County on Tuesday, Nov 3, 2015

An 86-year-old man has died after his tractor ran him over while he was clearing his property in Saginaw County.

The Saginaw News reports that sheriff's deputies responded at about 2 p.m. Tuesday to the fatal accident in Birch Run Township. Property owner Lloyd Opper was pronounced dead at the scene.

Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel says Opper had put the tractor in neutral while he was cleaning up his yard. He says the vehicle engaged into gear and rolled Opper over, pushing him up against a tree.

Federspiel describes the death as a "very tragic accident."
