TAUNTON, MA : Berkley man accused of causing Taunton crash to face two drug charges on Route 44 on Thursday, 30th August 2018
Police say the Berkley man who caused a two-car crash on Route 44 in front of Prestige Car Wash and Gas last Thursday will be summoned into court to face two drug charges.
Andrew M. Slivka, 20, 13 Cranberry Lane, will face misdemeanor charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and illegal possession of Xanax.
Both Slivka and the 52-year-old Swansea woman involved in the crash were transported to Morton Hospital to be examined.
Police said a witness to the 1:30 p.m. accident reported seeing a young man retrieve two backpacks from Slivka’s badly damaged Honda Accord, and then run to another car parked near a vacuum at the Prestige business.
That 21-year-old Taunton man, who was a passenger, stated that Slivka had asked him to remove the backpacks and put them in his own car, according to police.
Police said one of the backpacks that had been tossed in the parked car was unzipped, revealing a large quantity of marijuana and a digital scale.
Slivka, who police said was cooperative and polite, allegedly admitted that he sells marijuana to supplement his income.
He also allegedly admitted he didn’t have a prescription for the 15 Xanax “bars” that police said were also in the backpack.
Also found in the bag, police said, was $535 in cash.
