NASHVILLE, TN : 2 dead, 4 hospitalized in Downtown Nashville after person crashes fleeing traffic stop on Saturday, 17th February 2024
Three people are dead after a traffic stop in downtown Nashville ended in a crash near the Juvenile Court on Woodland Street Saturday evening, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD).
Police said they pulled over a BMW sedan at First Avenue and Gay Street. The car drove away to avoid being pulled over. According to MNPD, police officers did not follow the car.
Police said the driver went to Woodland Street and South First Street, where they hit an Infiniti SUV’s passenger side while speeding through a red light. The Infiniti flipped over, and the BMW hit a light pole and a fire hydrant.
The BMW’s 31-year-old driver died at the scene. He was identified as Anthony Matriel of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Efforts are being made to notify his family. The four passengers inside the BMW survived the crash, but three of them were injured and taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown.
