SIERRA VISTA, AZ : A three-car collision on Monday, June 19, 2017

A three-car collision at the intersection of Fry Boulevard and Seventh Street sent two people to Canyon Vista Medical Center with minor injuries on Monday afternoon.

Witnesses say that a GMC Sierra pickup truck traveling west on Fry Boulevard at a “high rate of speed” rear-ended a Toyota Tundra that was sitting in the left turn lane at Seventh Street while waiting for the light to change. The Tundra was hit with such force that the impact pushed it into a Toyota Highlander, also waiting to turn left (south) on Seventh, witnesses said.

“I saw the accident and ran out there to see if the drivers were OK,” said Gloria Leon, who is an employee at Rodolfo’s Taco Shop, located on the corner of Fry and Seventh. “I was looking right at the accident when it happened. It seemed like the driver tried to go into the left turn lane, but he was going too fast and caused the wreck.”

Leon said she approached the driver of the Sierra pickup truck and tried to talk to him, but he was not coherent.

“I thought he might be having a medical problem and maybe that’s what caused him to have the accident,” she said.

Another witness, Desi Carreon, also an employee of Rodolfo’s, said, “He was going pretty fast, hit the brakes, screeched into the curb and then hit the truck. The driver of the truck that got hit tried to cut the wheel to the right to avoid the vehicle in front of him (the Highlander), but he was hit too hard to avoid the collision.”

Josh Inlay, the operator of the Highlander, said that the truck behind him attempted to swerve into the right lane to prevent being pushed into his vehicle.

“His truck was hit with such force, he couldn’t avoid hitting me,” said Inlay. “The driver of the truck that caused the accident had to be going too fast to push that truck into my vehicle the way he did.”

Sierra Vista Police and Fire departments responded to the accident.
