East Lyme, CT : Brennan Cantwell, 16, hit by car and severely injured in East Lyme on Tuesday, August 26, 2014

A 16-year-old local girl was severely injured Tuesday when she was struck by a car on Route 1, state police said. Police responded to the area of Route 1, also called Boston Post Road, and Heritage Drive just before noon after receiving a report of a pedestrian hit by a car. The teenager, identified by state police as Brennan Cantwell, was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital with severe injuries. The occupants of the car, Sanford Desopo, 73, and Cheryl Desopo Sharp, 66, were not injured, state police said. The crash remains under investigation and no one has been charged, state police said.
