Great falls ,MT : 16 injured in west-central Minnesota school bus collision on Monday Morning ,July 13th 2015

A school bus and a small SUV collided head-on Monday morning on U.S. 212 east of Granite Falls, injuring 16 people, including 11 young children in the bus.

A passenger in a Kia Soul was airlifted to the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, while the other victims in the accident were transported to the Granite Falls Hospital and neighboring hospitals, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Anthony Blue, 33, of Granite Falls, was driving the 2014 Kia westbound on U.S. 212 around 7 a.m. near a scenic lookout wayside stop when he crossed the centerline and struck the eastbound, 2010 school bus driven by Michelle Groen, 52, of Danube.

Avis Amundson, 28, of Detroit Lakes, was transported by air ambulance to HCMC. She was a passenger in Blue's vehicle. Her condition was not immediately known.

The school bus was operated by the Tri-Valley Opportunity Council, which operates a Head Start school in Danube. The bus was transporting two adult passengers along with the 11 children, ages infant through 6. The injuries to the bus driver and passengers and the driver of the Kia were listed as non-life-threatening on the State Patrol's preliminary report.

The two adult passengers on the bus were Mayra Murillo, 28 of Montevideo, and Lilia Morales, 35, of Renville. The name of the children were not released. There were seven boys and four girls on the bus, including three children 1 year old or younger.

A call to the Danube school seeking information on the condition of the bus passengers was not answered.

The Granite Falls Police Department, Fire and Ambulance and Yellow Medicine and Chippewa County Sheriff's offices assisted the State Patrol to the scene. The accident is under investigation by the State Patrol.
