Shelbyville,IN : Sheriff's deputy involved in traffic accident on February, Friday 23th 2018
A Shelby County Sheriff’s deputy was injured Friday while responding to a call.
Deputy Carlos Rosales was in route to a burglary in progress call at around 5:15 p.m. As he approached traffic on Miller Avenue (south of St. Joseph Street), most of the vehicles started slowing down and moving to the right. Rosales moved to the left to go around the vehicles.
One vehicle moved into the center turn lane forcing the deputy into the north bound lanes. As he started to move back into the center turn lane a box truck started moving into the center turn lane. This forced Rosales back into the north bound lane where a vehicle was traveling north bound.
The deputy took evasive actions to try and avoid the north bound vehicle. The deputy’s Tahoe struck the front driver’s side of the other vehicle which sent the deputy back into the turn lane where he finally came to a stop.
Deputy Rosales sustained minor injuries and was transported the Major Health Partners Medical Center. The driver of the other vehicle, Frances Wilder, of Shelbyville, also received minor injuries and was transported to the medical center as well. It appears that seat belts and airbags along with the evasive action Rosales took prevented serious injuries.
