The Blount County Sheriff's Office was involved in a high speed chase that killed one man.
Blount County Sheriff James Berrong said in a news release that a Maryville man was killed after his truck flipped several times while deputies were involved in a pursuit. The chase began when deputies were on a non-related call on Denton Hayes Road. The release said that a man who deputies identified as 38 year old Joshua Hamilton drove up to the officers, yelled something at them, then drove off in a reckless manner.
Deputies gave chase onto Six Mile Road, following Hamilton roughly four miles before Hamilton lost control of his vehicle and flipped it several times. Hamilton was thrown from the cab of his truck. Deputies say he was not wearing a seat belt. Hamilton was pronounced dead on the scene, but after deputies attempted to give him CPR.
A 13 year old boy was also in the truck with Hamilton. He was not injured by the wreck, likely because he was wearing a seat belt deputies on the scene said.
