Miami, OK :Two killed in multi-vehicle crash involving semi on Will Rogers Turnpike on Saturday, July 4th 2015
Two people who had exited their car following a crash on the Will Rogers Turnpike were killed after being run over by a tractor-trailer rig early Saturday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.Howard Shelton, 44, of Miller, Missouri, was driving eastbound about nine miles east of Miami when his car struck a pickup that had become disabled in an earlier collision and was blocking the roadway.Shelton and a passenger, Celeste Shelton, 45, of Miller, Missouri, got out of their car to inspect the damage. The pickup’s driver, Michael Witten, 22, and James Witten, 59, both from Trenton, Missouri, also had exited their vehicle.A second passenger, Kathryn Witten, 59, remained inside the pickup.About 12:05 a.m., a tractor-trailer rig driven by Dragan Radivojevic, 44, of Scottsdale, Arizona, plowed into the vehicles and the Sheltons, who were standing in the roadway, troopers said.Howard and Celeste Shelton died at the scene. The Wittens were not injured in the crash.Radivojevic and a passenger, Aleksandar Radivojevic, 21, of La Grange, Illinois, were taken to a Miami hospital with minor injuries and released.The eastbound lane was closed for nearly seven hours while the crash was cleared.
