One person was flown to the hospital and about four other people were injured Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle wreck on Spartanburg Highway.
The accident occurred on Spartanburg Highway near U.S. Highway 25.
James Smith, 31, of Flat Rock drove his van down the U.S. 25 off-ramp and attempted to cross Spartanburg Highway to the on-ramp when he collided with an Explorer Sport SUV driven by Adilene Uribe Rodriguez, 28, of Saluda, according to N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper H.M. Martin.
The only passenger in Smith's vehicle had to be extricated from the van and was flown by Spartanburg, S.C.-based Regional One to a hospital, Martin said.
About four others were injured and were taken to hospitals by ambulance, Martin said.
Five people were in the Explorer Sport, Martin said.
Everyone was wearing a seatbelt except for a child who was being held by a grandparent, Martin said.
