Lewiston, ID : Slick roads result in several accidents in valley on Friday, February 3rd 2017
Rain that fell Friday night froze into a sheet of ice by Saturday morning, causing several traffic accidents in Lewiston and Clarkston.
Senior patrol officer Mike Rigney of the Lewiston Police Department said a woman crashed through a fence next to the Towne Square building in downtown Lewiston when she lost control of her sport utility vehicle as she drove north down the Fifth Street grade shortly before 1 a.m. The woman was uninjured, Rigney said.
Lewiston officers also assisted Nez Perce County deputies with a slide-off on Gun Club Road at about 7:30 a.m. The road was closed because of the icy conditions, but a car carrying five people left the northbound lane and went over the embankment into a large blackberry bush, Rigney said. Emergency personnel had to wait for the ice to melt before they could get enough traction to assist the people, who didn't suffer any serious injuries.
Another accident happened in the parking lot of Joe Hall Ford on 21st Street in Lewiston when an employee who was entering the lot apparently lost control of a vehicle on the ice and damaged at least two other vehicles.
The Asotin County Sheriff's Office also reported several slide-offs Saturday morning because of slick conditions, including an apparent injury accident on Fleshman Way involving a pregnant woman. The woman was taken to a local hospital and treated for unknown injuries, according to the sheriff's office. No further information was available.
