Augusta, AR : Newport residents killed in crash involving semi-trucks on U.S. Highway 64 in Woodruff County on Tuesday, December 15, 2015

A multi-vehicle accident killed 2 people and injured another in Woodruff County Tuesday.

According to a preliminary crash report by Arkansas State Police, Brenda J. Dawson, 72, of Newport, was heading west on U.S. Highway 64, around 1:30 p.m.

ASP said Dawson was trying to turn into a business and was rear-ended by a semi-truck.

Dawson’s vehicle then went into the path of an oncoming semi-truck, striking it.

According to the report, a passenger in Brenda Dawson’s vehicle, Jeffery L. Dawson, 42, of Newport, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brenda was taken to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis and died about two hours later.

The driver of the oncoming semi-truck, William Aughenbaugh, of Marion, was also injured in the crash.

The report did not say whether the driver of the first semi-truck was injured or not.
