Longs, SC : Pedestrian struck and killed by a car in the Longs area on Thursday evening, March 17, 2016

A pedestrian was struck by a car and killed late Thursday evening in the Longs area.

Andrew Campbell, 52, of Longs died as a result of injuries suffered during the crash, according to Michelle McSpadden, Horry County deputy coroner.

The crash happened about 11:50 p.m. Thursday on S.C. 9 and Charter Drive, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The driver of a 2015 Kia was headed north on S.C. 9 when Campbell was struck, and no charges will be filed against the driver as Campbell was in the roadway illegally, authorities with the highway patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation.
