A Danville woman and Hartselle man died in a head-on auto collision early Thursday on U.S. 31 near Hartselle.
Tiah Nicole Loggins, 27, of Danville, and Stephen Anthony Keeton, 28, of Hartselle, were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The wreck happened around 12:03 a.m. Thursday between the Big A and Wavaho gas stations, Decatur police said.
Officers said a Dodge Durango, driven by Loggins, and a Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Keeton, collided in the southbound lanes of U.S. 31. Both vehicles had occupants trapped inside, and one vehicle was on fire, police said.
Keeton was traveling in the wrong lane, north in the southbound lanes, police said. Loggins was traveling south in the southbound lane.
The Grand Cherokee was on fire when emergency personnel arrived, Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn said.
There were two other passengers in the vehicle driven by Loggins, and police said one was transported to Decatur Morgan Hospital and one was flown to Huntsville Hospital.
Loggins worked as a waitress at Hard Dock Café in Decatur, manager Joey Johnson said.
“Our Hard Dock family has lost a very special person. Your infectious smile and beautiful soul has forever marked our lives. Our prayers are with your son and your family. Tiah Nicole you will be missed!” according to Hard Dock's Facebook page.
Johnson said Loggins had a young son.
