A Bradford County man was killed Friday morning in a tractor trailer accident in northeast Indiana.
According to a press release from Angola City Police, 44-year-old Shawn H. Spencer of Rome was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Spencer was hauling a load of steel along westbound U.S. Highway 20 at Interstate 69 when the accident took place around 6:20 a.m.
Although the cause of Spencer’s death was not disclosed in the press release, WANE-TV reporters were told at the scene by police that it was believed Spencer had slammed on the brakes, causing the steel load to break loose and go through the sleeping section of the cab into the driver’s area.
Spencer had been driving a truck under Todd Berguson Trucking Company, according to police, which is based in Tioga County, Pa.
U.S. Highway 20 westbound was closed to traffic for approximately five hours as police investigated the scene.
Police have yet to release any more details.
The crash remains under investigation.
