Myakka City, FL : Driver died when truck struck a tree and caught fire off State Road 70 in Myakka on Sunday morning, April 5, 2015

A driver died this morning when his truck towing a trailer veered off State Road 70, then struck a barbed wire fence and a tree before catching fire.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol: Shortly after 10:50 a.m., Wilfred Calvin Jones, 55, of Arcadia headed west on the highway approaching Sugar Bowl Road. After the truck caught fire, he could not escape from the burning vehicle. A passerby, however, was able to pull a juvenile from the burning wreckage.

Paramedics airlifted Chicago A. Gainer, 15, of Arcadia, and the passerby, Levi Parker Teuton, 35, to Tampa General Hospital for treatment of severe burn injuries.
