Ice-related accidents in New Jersey leave 2 dead
Icy conditions made for dangerous and deadly driving in New Jersey and parts of New York this morning as at least 2 people died in dozens of accidents. One person was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on the Beaver Dam Bridge in Brick, New Jersey, authorities said.Investigators said a car lost control on the ice, and then another car hit it. The person in the second car got out of their vehicle, and was then struck by another car, causing a pile up of other cars. A dozen vehicles were involved. Three people suffered injuries.
Another person was killed after a motor vehicle crashed into a Philadelphia-bound New Jersey Transit bus in Pine Hill, Camden County just after 7 a.m.
Police say a 29-year-old woman from Lindenwold was driving a GMC Envoy SUV heading south on West Branch Road that appears to have spun out on ice. The SUV was then struck by a NJ Transit bus heading in the opposite direction. Ice on the road appears to have prevented the bus from stopping in time to avoid the collision.
The 25 passengers on the bus, and the bus driver, were treated at Kennedy Hospital in Stratford for minor injuries. A passenger in the SUV is being treated at Cooper Hospital in Camden
