CHARLOTTE, NC : Homeless man struck, killed in southeast Charlotte on Monday, March 13th 2017

A 62-year-old homeless man was fatally struck by a car in southeast Charlotte Monday morning.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, the man was pushing a shopping cart across Sardis Road North when he was struck. The area was shut down for a time.
CMPD tweeted that the deadly incident happened around 6:26 a.m. The victim was not crossing at a marked sidewalk and was wearing dark clothing, according to police.
The driver is cooperating with police. Police say that speed and alcohol are not factors in this crash.
No names have been released.
