The bus, bound for the Furr High School campus, was hit by another car, and flew off the 610 South Loop and crashed on Telephone Road below.
The bus driver and 17-year-old twins Brandon Williams and Lakeshia Williams survived. Two other girls -- Janecia Chatman, 14, and Mariya Johnson, 17 -- died from injuries sustained in the crash. Janecia was a freshman at Furr, which is also home to REACH Charter High School. Johnson attended REACH with the Williams twins. It was just like all of the sudden, you know, how you have a panic, everybody started panicking," Brandon told KPRC 2.
When we asked him what happened next, Brandon said, "I don't remember. It was black waves, like, I can't remember. And then I woke up in the hospital."
Brandon and Lakeshia are at Texas Children's Hospital. Brandon has shoulder injuries, cracked ribs and is using a neck brace for stability.
His sister has more serious injuries.Lakeshia is in the intensive care unit with cracked ribs, an injured spleen and a broken elbow.
Lakeshia, I really miss you. I haven't seen you for like two or three days. And I miss your presence because you're my twin," Brandon said.
While we were in the hospital Friday morning, Furr High Principal Bertie Simmons walked in with flowers and balloons.
The kids are brokenhearted that these kids got these injuries and they just want to say they miss them and love them," Simmons said.
She also brought Brandon's mother a bag full of black wrist bands with a red heart on them. All of the students at Furr are wearing them to remember the victims.
It's unclear when Brandon and Lakeshia will be released from the hospital, but both he and his mother are thankful for the outpouring of love and support.
I'm overwhelmed. I'm overjoyed because the love and the hugs and just showing up and saying how much I miss him," said Ella Williams said.
The ones that are praying for me, thank you guys so much. You've been on my mind and I've been on your mind," Brandon said.
