Newport News, VA : Car crash leaves hundreds without power in Newport News on Friday, 30th September 2016
According to Dominion, only 226 people are still without power after a car hit a power box at the corner of Warwick Boulevard and Hiden Boulevard just after noon on Friday. The rest of the power is expected to be restored by 9 p.m. Friday night.
The crash only involved one vehicle, according to Newport News police spokeswoman Jamie Bastas. She said no one was injured in the collision.
More than 2,000 are without power in Newport News after a car crash damaged equipment near Hiden Boulevard and Warwick Boulevard Friday afternoon, Dominion Power spokeswoman Bonita Harris said. The crash happened about 12:30 p.m., she said, and the outage is affecting 2,169 customers. The outage area extends from Warwick Boulevard between Christopher Newport University north to near City Center Boulevard, and reaches west to the James River, according to Dominion. It also affects buildings on the other side of Warwick to the train tracks.
Harris said Dominion crews expected to have most of the power restored within the hour, but 200 customers would be out until the underground padmount switch is replaced.
