Taghkanic, NY : 76-year-old man hospitalized in one-car crash in Taghkanic on Wednesday, December 3, 2014
A 76-year-old New York City man was in stable condition after his car struck a utility pole and rolled onto its roof on county Route 27 near Crow Hill Road, state police at Livingston said Wednesday
First responders arriving at the crash scene at about 2:33 p.m. Tuesday found a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee overturned, police said. The driver, Charles Teiger, was inside the vehicle and could not be reached because live power lines lay alongside the Jeep, according to police. A trooper noticed New York State Electric and Gas utility crews a short distance away and asked them to neutralize the power lines to allow rescuers to reach Teiger.
A preliminary investigation determined that Teiger was eastbound on Route 27 when he lost control of his vehicle, drove onto the south shoulder and struck the utility pole, police said.
Teiger was airlifted to Albany Medical Center. No tickets were issued.
