Tucson,AZ : 3 hurt in I-10 crash involving semi-tractor trailers west of Tucson on may, Monday 22th 2017
Three people were injured when two semi-tractor trailers and a passenger vehicle crashed the semis catching fire on Interstate 10 west of Tucson Monday, May 22, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Two injured in the passenger vehicle were treated by paramedics and transported to Tucson area hospitals, said Raul Garcia, a DPS spokesman. The driver of a tanker truck suffered serious head injuries and was flown to a hospital.
The crash occurred when a westbound commercial truck-tractor that was pulling a semi-trailer had its front left tire fail, Garcia said.
The driver lost control and the semi rig entered the depressed dirt median and rolled onto its side and entered the eastbound traffic lanes. The rig struck another commercial truck-tractor tanker head on, and a passenger vehicle also became involved in the crash, said Garcia.
A fire erupted and destroyed the truck-tractor that was pulling the semi-trailer. The fire also damaged the tanker truck, Garcia said. The driver of the truck-tractor refused medical treatment.
Multiple fire departments fought the blaze, which filled the sky with heavy black smoke that could bee seen from Tucson.
Garcia reminded motorists that as temperatures rise and cause added stress to tires, drivers must ensure their vehicle's tries are in good condition, and routinely check the tires' air pressure.
