Erie ,PA : Four people killed after mangled car that crashed on Thursday morning ,May 21st 2015
Pennsylvania State Police said they have recovered numerous items believed to be connected to a string of unsolved burglaries in Erie County during searches of an Erie residence and of a mangled car that crashed while fleeing the scene of a burglary in Concord Township on Thursday morning, killing four of the five occupants.
Police identified the victims this morning as Ranfis Perez-Magro, 40, the driver of the car; Jarred A. Connor, 19; a 17-year-old boy; and a 15-year-old boy, all of Erie.
The fifth person in the car, identified by police as Donnell R. Gamble, 22, of Erie, remains at UPMC Hamot with moderate injuries, police said.
The crash occurred when a Mazda 6 with a Pennsylvania registration went into a wooded area and slammed into a tree off Stuart Road, just east of Route 89 in Wayne Township, late Thursday morning. Police said the Mazda sped away from troopers and fled north on Route 89 at speeds reaching 100 mph after a resident of Elgin Road in Concord Township called the police on Thursday morning after finding the door of his residence open and seeing an unknown male get into the Mazda and leave. A patrol trooper spotted the Mazda and attempted to stop it when the car fled north out of Elgin, according to investigators.
During the pursuit, people in the Mazda were seen throwing from the car items suspected of being stolen in the burglary. More items were thrown from the car as it entered Stuart Road, a dirt and gravel road, before the car crashed, police said.
Numerous suspected stolen items, and three revolvers, were found in the car after the accident. One of the weapons was reported as stolen in a burglary and was found loaded in a holster that the car's driver was wearing, according to investigators.
Police said this morning that they also recovered from the crash scene items related to the Concord Township burglary, including gloves the victims were still wearing; portable radios; flashlights; and cell phones with extra batteries.
The Mazda remains in police custody and will be searched further, said Sgt. Mark Zaleski, a state police spokesman. The wreckage was so mangled that investigators are having a difficult time searching the vehicle, and they will be using the assistance of a fire department in cutting apart the car to recover items, he said.
