Motorbike crash takes woman's life in Texas

A 26-year-old Brighton woman died last weekend after the motorcycle she was riding crashed.Livingston County Undersheriff Michael Murphy said the operator of a 2003 Harley-Davidson was traveling north on Flint Road around 1 a.m. Saturday when he failed to negotiate a curve and crashed south of Hilton Road in Brighton Township.The passenger, identified as Amanda Schlarb, died at the scene, Murphy said, while the operator, 25-year-old Nicholas Gross, was transported to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor in critical condition.Gross, of Brighton, was in good condition Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.Murphy said speed and alcohol are contributing factors to the fatal crash. He said neither victim was wearing a helmet.
