Astoria, OR : A Seaside woman died early after a head-on collision on Saturday, June 10, 2017
A Seaside woman died early Saturday morning after a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 101 near Cullaby Lake.
Kayla Lynn Weber, 27, of Seaside, who was in a 2001 Toyota Camry, collided with a 1984 Chevrolet pickup truck, which then caught fire, just before 2:30 a.m. While emergency personnel found the woman dead on arrival, a man — Christopher Jeremy Costa, 23, of Astoria — had escaped the fiery truck.
Police determined Costa had crossed the center line for unknown reasons and struck Weber’s vehicle. Alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash, Oregon State Police has confirmed.
Costa was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries. He was later taken by Life Flight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland.
Fire personnel extinguished a blaze on the east side of the highway after ignited gas flowed through a culvert under the road and set a log on fire. One lane of the highway was closed for roughly 4 1/2 hours.
