Los Angeles, CA : Teen Dies After Getting Struck by Car While Skateboarding in South L.A. on Wednesday, May 6, 2015

Authorities on Thursday identified a teenager who was struck and killed by a vehicle while skateboarding in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood of South Los Angeles the previous night.

Jarek Trejo, 13, died after a collision that occurred at Hooper Avenue and 77th Place shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the county coroner’s office.

The victim was not wearing a helmet at the time, a CHP official told KTLA early Thursday.

The driver remained on the scene and was not arrested, said Officer Francisco Villalobos of the California Highway Patrol.

CHP was investigating the fatal collision.
