Oklahoma authorities say a 73-year-old man has drowned after driving around a barricade and into floodwaters.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 73-year-old Benjamin Morris of Clayton was overcome by the rushing current early Monday. They say Morris was driving along Highway 87 southeast of Tom when he disregarded barricades blocking a flooded area.

Morris' truck was disabled by the water. Firefighters recovered his body Monday afternoon.

The National Weather Service reports that the area has received between 10 and 20 inches of rain during the past 30 days. The Red River at nearby De Kalb, Texas, was in a major flood stage Monday at about 35 feet.

Tom is an unincorporated community about 30 miles southeast of Broken Bow.
