SAN FRANCISCO, CA : Driver arrested after fatal S.F. crash kills couple in crosswalk on Sunday, 21st July 2019

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of charges including vehicular manslaughter after a vehicle collision in the city’s Tenderloin neighborhood killed a pedestrian and injured another, authorities said Sunday.

According to a KGO-TV report and police statements, a rented, black Tesla was driving northbound on Taylor Street at O’Farrell Street around 2 p.m. when it struck a gray Mini Cooper sedan in the intersection, police said. According to a report by KGO-TV, the Tesla was traveling 15-20 mph above the posted speed limit.

Police said the Tesla spun out of control before striking a man and a woman walking westbound about a quarter of the way into a crosswalk, injuring them severely.

The man and woman were taken to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital in life-threatening condition, police said. The man, identified by the San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office as Benjamin Dean, 39, of Clovis, was later pronounced dead.

The woman, identified as Dean’s wife, was listed in critical condition Sunday night.

Both vehicles’ drivers were not injured, remaining at the crash site and cooperating with investigators. A preliminary assessment appeared to find that neither alcohol nor drugs were involved.
