Barbourville, KY : 13-year-old driver dead and 14-year-old passenger injured after crash in southeastern Kentucky on Monday, February 23, 2015
Police say a 13-year-old driver is dead and a 14-year-old passenger is recovering after the vehicle they were traveling in crashed in southeastern Kentucky.
According to a statement from Kentucky State Police, troopers were called early Monday to assist at the scene of the crash near Barbourville in Knox County.
A preliminary investigation found that a Barbourville City Police officer saw a 2008 Nissan Altima traveling along a highway with no headlights. Before the officer could initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle left the roadway and overturned, ejecting both teens.
The Knox County coroner pronounced the 13-year-old dead at the scene. The 14-year-old was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the crash remains under investigation.
