Gainesville, FL : Two injured in fiery vehicle accident at 3001 NW 13th St. near the Gate Station on Sunday, 21st July 2019
A motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries in a fire Sunday afternoon.
Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to a vehicle fire at about 12:24 p.m. at 3001 NW 13th St. near the Gate Station, according to a Fire Rescue incident report.
A motorcycle and SUV had both caught fire, the report said.
Fire Rescue applied water to the SUV, whose female driver was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the report said. The motorcyclist in the accident had life-threatening injuries and was also taken to Shands with a Trauma Alert.
Foam was used to put out the fire, which was fueled by the ruptured gas tank beneath the SUV, the report said.
The hazardous material unit contained the foam mixed with the fuel so that it did not leak into a nearby storm drain, the report said.
The Environmental Protection Agency was also called to the scene to remove all hazardous material, the report said.
